Blair, I love this post, and for reasons that reach far beyond workplace harmony. Much of what you write about is so relatable to me in a lifetime of twisting myself to fit in (news flash: 100 percent NOT the same as belonging) and wondering why I always seemed to be the odd one out. Truth is, I wasn't—not always and not even often—but it took a lot of years to figure that out. Your newsletter is a true public service. xo
Really glad you GOT this piece, Casey. Amazing how people's lack of skill in welcoming can make us believe their behavior is about us. Thanks for chiming in here and for sharing the Stack
Makes me think about a moon lodge I went to about 14 years ago -- I entered the space and felt like everyone was already comfortable with who was there and not open to new energy. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing- I've been to events where I'm just interested in engaging with the peeps I came with-but yeah, so important if you are a space holder of a group or circle that is meant to expand- and you are right, it's such an art that often no one thinks about- and I know you have enough going on, but strikes me as a great book topic, Blair.
I think it’s a really important topic as well and I agree, people just don’t think about it. Thanks so much for sharing about your lodge experience and also the other side where you just wanna do something with your friends and not open the circle.

Love this. I HATE that feeling of scanning a group for an open face or invitation and not getting one. I love the game idea.
Right? Not a good feeling. Growing up and living in NYC, I had a lot of those experiences.
I had forgotten, if I knew, that you grew up there. I actually bought an apartment there a year ago and spend 7-10 days a month there now.
Oh how fun.
