Whoah, Blair! I will have to look into this story. Thank you for sharing it. That is extreme and very scary!

Yes it is. I know you have a lot of tools for embodiment and happy that you are often sharing them to help people resist the seductive pull of the non-real.

Great, thought provoking article Blair. How sad for this young man and what is possible culturally if we don’t steer it in a different direction. (God knows we can’t seem stop it). What I’d like to add, because it’s what’s up in my own life, is how hard it is to stay present in our relationships, particularly with those we love the most, the ones that challenge us to actually see what behaviors, reactions and thought patterns we may be stuck in that don’t work for intimacy, real depth of heart connection. Is that becoming a lost art? They ask us to really see and perhaps shift something that feels fundamental and I can see how easy it is to want to walk away from that, to jump into some alternate reality where I don’t have to do any of the work necessary for the potential profound and meaningful reward.

This touches me deeply Ellen. Because where we come from, the work you speak of is so meaningful. It creates bonds, and history, and the deep, though sometimes scary and painful pleasure of being known. I do fear it is becoming a lost art. But you seem to me someone who has been doing that work long enough that you know the ropes. That though you may escape more than before because it's such an easy option, when enough is at stake, you will withstand the discomfort and stay with the relationship until a new level of connection is created. I worry for younger peeps who haven't had this experience and therefore don't know the profound rewards. Thank you for this powerful comment. I may have to co-write a post with you about it.

I love the metaphor about living in different worlds. Facebook just sent me a "memory" from 2008 when I wrote, "I've come to the realization that there are two Americas, and never the twain shall meet." This was 16 years ago and it's only gotten worse. So much worse that it makes my post of 2008 almost look quaint. I mean John McCain vs. Trump!?!?! They're not even in the same league, or should I say world. I can't help think that social media, bots, and disinformation that goes viral now has helped get us to this place.

Wow Lori. How prescient. I mean, if the twain have met they want nothing to do with each other and I agree, social media, bots and foreign implanting of disinformation has fostered that divide. I've never felt so distrusting of reality and I do feel that AI has contributed to that feeling. But. I do hope that this election goes the same way as 2008, even though it will be a long slog to get through all the lies that will follow.

That is so heartbreaking, Blair. And frightening. I haven't really thought about how I stay connected to reality, but I'll be thinking about it now.

The article really does shake things up. I feel like many of us are wary of what AI is doing to our capabilities but when it gets really dark like this it can be a wake up call. I so appreciate your contributions to the discussions, Karen.

When AI first came over the horizon, I remember the mantra: It’s not going to take away jobs. And then it did. And kept doing.

I’m 75 now. I can’t imagine today’s job market when applying for a job puts the human applicants in competition with AI. Better still, an algorithm developed by AI ranks the applicants, devoid of any human experience.

Gary, in my first post for the Stack I share the story of thinking my job as a leadership coach was immune to AI and discovering it wasn’t. These are very strange times. The mission of the stack is to hopefully remind people of the importance of human intelligence. Appreciate you chiming in!

What you've written echoes much of what I've been thinking and writing about. Actually will be touching on in upcoming Substack. The isolation and distrust that's enveloping us. Virtual Reality is remarkable but it's perhaps paradoxical. On the one hand we want to become immersed in the experience, and on the other it separates us from the moment.

So well said Nancy. The desire for the immersion is a quest to be in the moment, and yet, where does it really leave us? Looking forward to reading your thoughts. Thanks for chiming in.

Since the pandemic, I made the decision to prioritize human connections, listening, learning, growing. It’s probably scarier to imagine some of our neighbora than to speak with them. Thank you for asking these questions!

Thanks for chiming in and sharing your very HI priorities! And for reminding of the importance to speak to neighbors. Here in the U.S. the news situation is so disparate that you’ve simply learned to avoid political convos because … different “headsets” make it less of a dialogue. Not that it’s impossible but that it takes great skill when you don’t have the same facts (when I get back to the conflict series I’ll be sharing some of those!) to stay connected. Thanks again, Joelle.
